Frequently Asked Questions

What therapy services do you offer?

Please refer to the “Services” and “Concerns” pages above (accessible from the menu tabs).

How long are therapy sessions?

Typically, sessions last about 55 minutes. However, we may discuss and adjust the duration based on:

  • Your clinical needs

  • The type of session (e.g., couples therapy)

  • Your personal preferences

Do you accept insurance?

Dr. Messer’s Practice does not accept insurance reimbursement. Rather, he operates as an “out-of-network” provider. Here's what you need to know:

  • Payments for sessions are self-pay (e.g., credit card held in our secure EHR)

  • Many insurance plans offer partial reimbursement - Dr. Messer recommends checking with your insurance representative

  • Dr. Messer can provide you with a "superbill" - documentation you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

What are your fees?

The Practice strives to provide transparent pricing for our services:

  • Individual therapy: $225/hour

  • Couples and family therapy: $250/hour

Sliding scale: Dr. Messer understands that financial circumstances vary. The Practice typically reserves at least one spot for clients experiencing financial hardship and offers therapy services at a moderately discounted rate.

Clinical documentation: The practice charges a prorated fee of $225/hour for requests to compose and share clinical information (e.g., diagnostic impressions, accommodation opinions).

Are there any “surprise” fees?

The Practice believes in full transparency. You'll never encounter unexpected charges:

  • All fees are clearly outlined in our client intake and office policy documentation

  • Any uncommon situations affecting agreed-upon fees are discussed with you beforehand and require your approval

  • The Practice has a 24-hour cancellation policy:

    • Appointments canceled less than 24 hours in advance or no-shows are charged the full fee (if rescheduling within the same week is not possible)

    • Exceptions are made for serious illness, accidents, or family emergencies - no fee will be charged in these cases

Dr. Messer’s Practice is committed to providing high-quality, accessible mental health care. If you have any questions about services or fees, please don't hesitate to ask.
